It’s Saturday but I don’t care [30 Sep 2006|09:05am]

…because I’ve been unemployed for one month and two days! And, truly, very happy about that.

Not only it’s Saturday, it’s my “Angel’s day” - the day of Vera (”trust”), Nadezhda (”hope”), Liubov (”love”) and their mother Sofia (”wisdom”). Vera, Nadezhda and Liubov’ are the rare Russian names that still have a meaning. Though Liubov-name and liubov-love have slightly different declinations. Sophia meant “wisdom” in Greek, not in modern Russian. Anyway, this is the only holiday I like, much more than my birthday or New Year Eve. Usually the weather is very nice, a sort of “indian summer” (which in Russian is not indian, but “babye leto”, “women’s summer”, with a light pejorative meaning). Right after it gets more and more nasty, and I am very afraid of the winter, because the last winter was unbearable. 2 months with temperatures below -20 C! I can’t stand that - my skin hurts.

Back to the names. My name is Nadezhda, my late mother’s name was Vera, and it’s our day. Got lots of nice wishes from family and friends. By the way, Nadezhda sounds too official, I prefer to be called Nadya (neutral) or Nadyen’ka (very tender)!
